Understanding Dementia & Older Adults Experiencing Homelessness on ZOOM

Course Description: This training will offer an overview of the basics of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and describe how dementia can affect behavior and communication.  Attendees will learn the importance of practicing person-centered care in working with individuals living with dementia.  Videos, case studies and discussion will provide an interactive learning experience for professionals working with older adults who are experiencing homelessness as well as symptoms of dementia.  Resources from the Alzheimer’s Association and additional community resources will be provided.

Presenter Bios:

Jenna Pogorels is a Sr. Program Manager at the Alzheimer’s Association of MN/ND and licensed clinical social worker within the state of Minnesota. Jenna has been providing education and support services to individuals, families and communities impacted by dementia for over 7 years.

Jenna Fink has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota. She has been a licensed social worker (LSW) since 2007. Prior to her position at the Alzheimer’s Association, Jenna worked as a nursing facility social worker in memory care, longterm care, and short-term rehab settings. Jenna has been working for the Alzheimer’s Association® since 2010. In her position, Jenna oversees the Minnesota education and outreach programs. Jenna also offers phone and in-person support services to individuals with dementia and their families by providing dementia education, information about resources in their community, and assisting with developing a plan for the future based on their goals and needs. Jenna also manages chapter support for the 24/7 Helpline.

How to register:  Registration below is broken into Member & Non-Member.  If you are unsure whether you are part of a member organization or would like more information about membership, please contact Michele.  If you choose to pay by credit card, you will be walked through payment process and receive an automated email confirming your payment and registration.  If you choose to pay by check, you will receive an invoice from MESH.  Payment is expected prior to training date.  Please contact Michele if scholarship help is needed.  You may register more than 1 person at a time and note the names in the space provided.  I will send out the Zoom link to participants the day prior to the training.   If you do not see the reminder email with the link – please check your spam/junk folder or email Michele right away.
