Course Description:

The Somali 101 workshop is designed for those who want to learn more about the lives, culture and experiences of Somali refugees living in Minnesota.  Whether you are a service provider, health care professional, educator or an employer, this workshop will teach you about the culture, customs, practices and experiences of Somali refugees in Minnesota.

Presenter Bio:

Liban Artan, LSW, works as a Family Services Coordinator for the Project for Pride in Living (PPL). Prior to working at PPL he was a care coordinator for the Minnesota Stroke Association, working with clients and community providers to help maintain independent and healthy life. Liban has previously worked in a community clinic, working with clients with developmental disabilities and mental illness. He is a Licensed Social Worker and speaks four different languages (Somali, English, Arabic, German). Liban graduated from University of Minnesota with a degree in Housing, during his studies he focused on homelessness and housing policy.
