Homelessness 201: Understanding Definitions of Homelessness on ZOOM

Course Description:

Is my client homeless? It seems like the answer should be straightforward! But different funding sources define homelessness differently for eligibility and have different documentation requirements. This workshop will break down these definitions – Minnesota homelessness, literal homelessness, youth homelessness, Category 4 homelessness, long-term homelessness, and chronic homelessness – and what sort of documentation is required. We will walk through examples of homeless histories to determine which definitions they meet and if their documentation passes muster.  From assessor to coordinated entry staff to housing provider to funder, knowing about eligibility requirements is a valuable tool for ending homelessness for the people we serve.

Presenter Bios:

Heather Duchscherer has worked as Metro Regional Manager at Hearth Connection since 2016 where she helps administer federal, state & county-funded rental assistance and services that span the continuum from assessment to housing.  Heather enjoys “nerding out” over policy and its real-life implications for human beings.

Janie Holliday has worked for Center City Housing for 2 years providing long time housing for adults with Chronic homelessness, chronic alcoholism and mental health issues.  She is currently the site Director of Silver Creek Corner & the Property Manager of Francis. “I love what we do and who we are able to help. We are able to make a difference in peoples lives everyday!!!! Center City Housing is an amazing organization!!!  I have a background in juvenile corrections and chemical dependency, I have also worked in Property Management.  I am Mom to two amazing sons, Mom in Law to a beautiful Daughter in Law and have 2 amazing grandkids!!!”

This is a 3 hour training.  

How to register:  Registration below is broken into Member & Non-Member.  If you are unsure whether you are part of a member organization or would like more information about membership, please contact Michele.  If you choose to pay by credit card, you will be walked through payment process and receive an automated email confirming your payment and registration.  If you choose to pay by check, you will receive an invoice from MESH.  Payment is expected prior to training date.  Please contact Michele if scholarship help is needed.  You may register more than 1 person at a time and note the names in the space provided.  I will send out the Zoom link to participants the day prior to the training.
