CEUs offered: 2

Harm Reduction is part of our 101 series of best practices.  It typically is offered with 5 other topics (History of Homelessness | Client Engagement | Boundaries & Ethics | Exploring Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging | Housing First | Trauma Informed Care).  Eric is a new trainer for MESH and will be training on Harm Reduction for future 101 series, but we’re excited to offer his content now as a standalone.

Course Description:

While there is no universal definition of or formula for implementing Harm Reduction, many in our industry follow basic principles in their practice & services. In this training, these principles will be used to take a closer look at Harm Reduction and how it can also be applied to the over-arching continuum of care for the homeless community. From needle exchange programs to accessibility of basic primary care services, harm reduction can have a long-lasting impact on a person’s quality of life, beyond preventing the negative consequences of substance use.

Presenter Bios: Eric Bacon has been active in the community for over 25 years, working as a Licensed Alcohol/Drug Counselor and with a passion for working with the homeless population. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Continuum of Care Center. Eric has been in recovery for 29 years and uses his lived experience with homelessness, incarceration and addiction to connect with people where they are while honoring all pathways to recovery and self-sufficiency. With his inception of this non-profit which is a Recovery Community Organization (RCO), his team strives to provide peer-to-peer support to those with substance use and mental health disorders.

As an AmeriCorps Recovery Project Coordinator, Kelly Ables brings to CCC her passion for helping those who struggle with substances and are looking for their own path to recovery.
